Introduced in 1987, Italy’s dot IT country-code extension is really popular both within the country and in the English-speaking world. The reason is that the domain is a pronoun, which can be used for forming inventive and appealing domain names – write.it, youcanmake.it and so on. This is a way to have an easy-to-learn domain name, so that it will be easier for your visitors to return to your website or to give it with colleagues and friends. The domain extension can also be used for a website, which is linked to the technology sector considering the fact that IT is an abbreviation, which is known worldwide.

As dot IT domains are not registered directly by IT-NIC, the Registry organization that administers this TLD, such a domain can be purchased through a 3rd-party provider, such as ours. You can book a .IT domain for a year at a time, and the domains are transferable, so you can move your existing domain over to us and we will renew it once the transfer has been done. The only prerequisite is that the person ordering such a domain needs to be situated in a country from the EU.

As there are existing Second-Level Domains that include names of various regions and localities in Italy reserved for local 3rd-level registrations, new names that include geographical regions of any kind are not permitted on any level to avoid any future confusion. We do not support such 3rd-level domains, though, as they can be registered only by locals.
